As any customer who has purchased finished Conestoga cabinetry from the Cabinet Authority before knows, our products are finished with a durable clear topcoat. Since our business was founded, the two sheen selections we’ve offered for painted and stained finishes are 15% (satin) and 40% (semi-gloss).
However, recent trends in the home improvement industry have been towards flatter finishes, especially as stained woods begin to become a more popular choice than they have been in the past decade. Sherwin-Williams, our main finish supplier, has confirmed this surge in lower-sheen options. Conestoga has decided to adjust our topcoat sheen options in order to be more closely in line with current preferences.
To that end, all finished orders placed on and after August 1, 2023 will be offered with 10% sheen or 30% sheen topcoats, rather than 15% or 40%, and become our new standard sheen options. Our sample kits will also soon be updated to reflect these new options. This change is geared primarily towards stained finishes, where the lower sheen will enhance the natural beauty of the wood grain. According to the finishing experts at Conestoga, the change should be nearly imperceptible on painted finishes.
If you have questions about these changes, how they might impact ongoing or future orders, or any other questions about our finishing program, please reach out to your account manager.
